I am currently in the process of redoing my bedroom, with visions of everything crisp and clean with a touch of shabby chic. My old furniture was beautiful, rich, and cherry wood but not what I had in mind at all! So, my mom donated all my bedroom furniture to a sweet girl at our church for her to enjoy.
In the mean time, I had been searching local thrift stores weekly in hopes of finding pieces that had good bones, 100% wood and clean lines that I could paint with the perfect color of Annie Sloan chalk paint. I lucked out at our local Habitat for Humanity Restore with this headboard for $7 and yes, look at that stack of many others! It was perfect! Not to mention, it was only $5 when I went to pay...even better!
After
sleeping with my mattress and box springs on the floor for a couple of nights,
I was motived to quickly finish my headboard with hopes of finishing my dresser
after New Year’s.
Now
becomes the fun part: sanding, priming and painting. I chose Annie Sloan’s Old White chalk
paint. It was the exact color I had in
mind. The directions say you don’t have
to prime, but the paint isn’t cheap, so it will save you money in the long
run. Once I sanded the headboard, I put
a nice thick layer of primer on and let it dry overnight. Nice and thick was a good way of putting it,
maybe don’t use as much as I did because it took a good 2 full days for my
primer to dry completely. Oh well…you
live and learn.
Here
is where I become a terrible blogger, I left my camera inside and didn’t
capture any “moments” during the priming or painting stages. I am so sorry, but I will promise to do
better! : )
Have I
mentioned how wonderful it is to have 2 men who own a construction business live
in your home? They had my headboard
attached to the frame before I could blink my eyes! (I like their fast work!) But it looks great. I will add, this headboard was for a full
size bed but thanks again to their handy work, it only took a simple 2 x 4 to
adjust to my queen frame.
I will
reveal the completed headboard in 2 posts from now when I show you my new room reveal! Hint: Oversized Monograms - Yay!! Monograms are my favorite!
Much love and Seasons Greeting!
Candice
