Headboard Make Over

I am currently in the process of redoing my bedroom, with visions of everything crisp and clean with a touch of shabby chic. My old furniture was beautiful, rich, and cherry wood but not what I had in mind at all! So, my mom donated all my bedroom furniture to a sweet girl at our church for her to enjoy.

In the mean time, I had been searching local thrift stores weekly in hopes of finding pieces that had good bones, 100% wood and clean lines that I could paint with the perfect color of Annie Sloan chalk paint. I lucked out at our local Habitat for Humanity Restore with this headboard for $7 and yes, look at that stack of many others! It was perfect!  Not to mention, it was only $5 when I went to pay...even better!

After sleeping with my mattress and box springs on the floor for a couple of nights, I was motived to quickly finish my headboard with hopes of finishing my dresser after New Year’s.
Now becomes the fun part: sanding, priming and painting.  I chose Annie Sloan’s Old White chalk paint.  It was the exact color I had in mind.  The directions say you don’t have to prime, but the paint isn’t cheap, so it will save you money in the long run.  Once I sanded the headboard, I put a nice thick layer of primer on and let it dry overnight.  Nice and thick was a good way of putting it, maybe don’t use as much as I did because it took a good 2 full days for my primer to dry completely.  Oh well…you live and learn.
Here is where I become a terrible blogger, I left my camera inside and didn’t capture any “moments” during the priming or painting stages.  I am so sorry, but I will promise to do better!  : )
Here is the headboard after one coat of Annie Sloan chalk paint drying.

Have I mentioned how wonderful it is to have 2 men who own a construction business live in your home?  They had my headboard attached to the frame before I could blink my eyes!  (I like their fast work!)  But it looks great.  I will add, this headboard was for a full size bed but thanks again to their handy work, it only took a simple 2 x 4 to adjust to my queen frame.
I will reveal the completed headboard in 2 posts from now when I show you my new room reveal!  Hint: Oversized Monograms - Yay!!  Monograms are my favorite!
But here is my next project….

Much love and Seasons Greeting!

I haven't left you...

I promise I haven't left you!  When I started this blog, I had intentions of writing a post every week!  {HA!}  That has yet to happen but there are a lot of fun things going on in my life.  I currently run a small monogramming business out of my home which takes up a lot of my free time but I am very thankful for the business.  My routine lately has been: get up, get ready for work, work allll day, Pinterest on my lunch hour and then home to monogram allll night!  A crazy life....but I LOVE it!  I currently am in the process of turning my bonus room into my office.  Pinterest has so many cute ideas and gorgeous craft rooms that my brain runs rampant when I am on there looking for ideas.  I am hoping to have it completed very soon and that will be my next post!  Love to all!!  [And I promise not to make it such a long vacation again!  : )]

{At Last}

Welcome to Pink and Purposed!  I am excited to start my journey in the blogging world to share all of my furniture re-do's, craft projects and anything else that becomes post worthy.

I am just a simple girl from South Carolina with a heart to repurpose and re-use instead of buying new.  I am excited to share my first project (thanks to Pinterest)...

I had never been thrifting but kept seeing amazing things restored on Pinterest and thought...I have GOT to do this!  And boy have I  LOVED every minute of it.    On my very first thrifting trip, I picked up this chair at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore for $12 and thought...that could be so cute!  And not to mention, I am in the process of updating my craft room so this chair is the perfect height and size for where I need it!

One must see beyond the ugly, puke yellow, velvety fabric and worn arms and think fun and funky.  So here begins the journey...

Taking off the old fabric is definitely not fun but put on some good music and time will pass quickly!  Be careful when removing the old fabric, as it will be your template.

After removing hundreds of tacks {and no, I am not exaggerating}, I finally got the chair down to its "bones" and started testing paint colors to match my fabric.  I went to Sherwin Willams and got 3 samples the sweet guy matched to my fabric and couldn't wait to try them out.  The first color was winner so I went no futher!  Not to mention, pink is my favorite color!  I primed and painted 2 coats with sanding between each layer.  Once the paint dried...the fun part began!

The project had to be moved to the living room because this girl had to watch her South Carolina Gamecocks play football!  Mom wasn't too happy about this but she was a trooper and even helped when I didn't have enough hands!

Here are the final results!  I could not be more pleased with how unperfectly perfect they are for my craft room.  Not to mention, this is the first time I have ever attempted to reupholster anything!   And in case you forgot how hideous the chair started out, below is a before and after shot.  So the next time you doubt a Goodwill or thrift store find, don't...with a little sanding, paint and the right fabric, you can turn anything into your perfect masterpiece!
